How many people have heard of The Slender Man? Surprisingly not that many. The Slender Man is a paranormal figure professed to have been in
existence for centuries over a vast geographical area. Legend has is that he is
manifested by various names around the world; Fear Dubh in Scotland, The
Dutch Takkenmann in the Netherlands and Der
Grosse Mann in Germany. Though his name may change; the appearance and
nature of this entity remains terrifyingly the same.
His origin is claimed to have been from a fabricated story
on the SomethingAwful forums, though
many have claimed to see him from much earlier accounts.
The Slender Man is
depicted as being a male with no visible facial features (though it is said to
vary from person to person when it is actually
seen) and what almost seems like a type of ghostly, mummified-gauze
wrapping around his head. His terrifying
height ranges anywhere from 6-feet to 15-feet and has freakishly long
appendages (arms and legs). At times, The
Slender Man is known to bear an insurmountable number of lengthy
tendril-like tentacles from his back and sides, at will. The purpose of these
tendrils are unknown, but one has to believe that the sole purpose (aside from
scaring the shit out of a victim) is to maim and kill his victim. The
tendril-aspect of this entity is only speculated, but of course “no one has
survived after the dreaded tendril-attack” of The Slender Man. For the most part, The Slender Man stands and glares from a distance with arms resting
loosely by his sides, or gentlemanly folded behind his back. His demure
“at-first-glance” appearance may seem calming, albeit startling; though The Slender Man is anything but that. Because
of the poorly-disproportioned body he has; it is easy to see how and why he
moves so methodically.
He dons a black, two-piece suit and tie (red or grey),
almost to the likeness of the Men In
Black-fame, appears to be excessively lanky and thin to the point of former
(now deceased) NBA player, the Sudanese Manute Bol. It is said that he is able
to stretch his limbs and torso to inhuman lengths in order to prompt terror and
entrap his victims. His attack is somewhat methodical, as far as approach goes;
however, once eyesight is locked in between the victim and whatever it is that The Slender Man uses to navigate and
see; the victim is placed in a sort of hypnotic state rendering them
defenseless and allowing the entity to subdue, and eventually absorb, abduct,
or kill his victim.
In photos and sketches, The
Slender Man is usually seen posted up in the woods or surrounded by things
that are just as tall and lanky as he is. More than likely this is to camouflage
himself, giving an element of surprise. His targets of terror were generally
thought to be aimed towards children, though it is difficult to say as some
“accounts” claim that he is apt stalking those who become overly paranoid about
his existence purposely giving them glimpses of himself in order to cause
heightened mental anguish. An associate to the entity is called, The Rake, which is equally terrifying on
an unreal level.
Keep an eye out for the distance or dark places; for The Slender Man may be stalking and waiting for the right moment…pleasant screams.
